‘All In’ for Workplace Progress – A Call to Action

Allyson Zimmermann, CEO, LEAD Network, says:
“Despite the challenging political climate, our mission remains unwavering: to create fair, equitable workplaces for all in the European Retail and Consumer Goods industry. At LEAD Network, we’re all in and staying the course with diversity, equity and inclusion. We remain committed to breaking down barriers and championing gender equity at every level. Research consistently shows that fostering inclusion isn’t just the right thing to do – it delivers tangible business results, from reducing turnover to boosting performance. I want to acknowledge the steadfast support of our 24,000+ Members, Volunteers and 65+ Partner companies for standing with us. Together, we are reshaping the future of work for everyone.
These are challenging times, and while some organisations – especially those with US operations – may adopt a quieter approach, the work of advancing inclusion is far from over. I want to reassure our 24,000+ Members and Volunteers in the European CPG and Retail industry that our work continues apace.
At LEAD Network, we remain resolute in staying the course, joined by many organisations both inside and outside our community. I am deeply grateful for your unwavering support and commitment to our mission.
We are dedicated to ensuring that all workers have equal access to opportunities. Yet, even as we stand united, many organisations—particularly those with US operations—face uncertainty and anxiety. For over a decade, we have been advancing workplace inclusion. While progress has been made, the fact remains that only 37% of executive roles in the European CPG and Retail industry are held by women (LEAD Network, 2023).
So why are we ‘all in’? Because advancing inclusion is a win-win. It’s about creating environments where every worker—regardless of gender—can thrive. It’s about dismantling outdated assumptions and celebrating the change makers who drive our industry forward. When women succeed, everyone benefits. Research shows that fostering inclusion not only enriches lives but also drives measurable business results—from reducing turnover to boosting performance.”
Together, we are committed to building workplaces where every worker has equal access to opportunity. Let’s continue driving progress and shaping the future of work for all.”
Here’s how we Stay the Course
Focus on Actions, Not Just Words
We hold our teams accountable for building inclusive cultures. Real progress is measured by tangible actions and celebrated successes.
Engage Your Supporters
While a small, vocal minority may oppose inclusion efforts, the vast majority are ready to support fairness, equality, and belonging. Protecting these voices is essential.
Lead by Example
True inclusion starts at the top. When leaders demonstrate unwavering commitment, it sets the tone for the entire organisation.
Understand and Address Resistance
Often, resistance stems from unaddressed concerns. By seeking to understand the ‘why’ behind the opposition, we can dismantle barriers with empathy and strategic action.
Integrate Inclusion as a Strategic Imperative
Inclusion isn’t an add-on—it’s central to business strategy. Embedding inclusive practices across all industry functions ensures accountability and sustained progress.
Move Beyond Representation
Instead of fixating solely on numbers, we focus on building fair systems and nurturing a culture where every employee feels valued.
Listen to Your Teams
Open dialogue dispels misconceptions and builds trust. It’s crucial to hear and address the concerns of every member of your organisation.
Stay True to Your Core Values
Employees are drawn to organisations with strong guiding principles. A genuine commitment to these values sets truly inclusive workplaces apart.
By embracing an ‘all in’ mindset, we not only foster a fairer, more equitable workplace but also unlock the economic and innovative potential that comes with truly inclusive leadership. We hope that one day gender parity will be the norm rather than the exception. Until then, let’s commit to doing the hard work—because when we are ‘all in’, we all win.
